recently Tracie D. Hall said,
"I truly believe that Audre Lorde’s “The Master's Tools Will Never Dismantle the Master's House” is the most under-read text in America.
The phrase so often repeated, but never fully understood.
If we could rise to a collective recognition of what she was telling us, we could change the course of history."
i agree with Tracie.
when i first read this particular speech i couldn't help but chuckle because Lorde starts the speech off by checking those in attendance. lol.
it is a brilliant example of a time when she practiced what she preached. speaking truths even when they might be difficult or uncomfortable.
so this year for Audre Lorde's birthday, i encourage you to read and share Lorde's speech.
This year her birthday falls on a day in which I will be teaching my latest class "Uses of the Erotic: Burlesque as Power". We'll be reading Uses of the Erotic in full, discussing and sharing, and partaking in some sweets in honor and celebration of Lorde's legacy!
